Christmas 2012

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year as we celebrate another year of the birth of our Lord.  We started out the year skiing in Sunday River Maine & then a trip to beautiful Steamboat Colorado.  What a beautiful country God has blessed us with.  We are still volunteering at the Intrepid Museum.  As a matter of fact they interviewed Jerry because of his service on the Intrepid in 1967.  You can catch the interview at the following website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfbWaNDD55M&feature=player_embedded

In June Kristen, Justin, Jocelyn & Isabelle flew in from MO.  We went canoeing in PA & made a nostalgic visit to the beach at Coney Island.  It is just so wonderful seeing & getting to spend time with them.  Kristen’s book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast, is still selling.  Justin went on a mission’s trip to Haiti in November, helping to build houses for the less fortunate.  We also celebrated Arlene’s parents’ 90th birthdays during this time.  Catherine & John are still going strong (pretty much like Everybody Loves Raymond’s parents on TV).

Bob has invested in two chiropractic offices in New Jersey, so needless to say he is very busy.  Janine spent most of the summer stressed out from fighting for little Bobby so he can be placed in a more appropriate program. With the help of an advocate she was successful.

Jerry decided to try & get back into the swing of things and play tennis again.  In September he joined Arlene in playing with a group of people.  During the first game he falls on the court which was due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.  Needless to say, his ski season is over before it has begun.  He needed surgery & was placed in a cast for 4-5 weeks.  Then one of those boots.  He’s been much better now.  Not using the boot as much or the crutches.

Well we all know what big event happened in October.  Hurricane Sandy had a tragic impact on Staten Island, the City & New Jersey.  Our church has become a storehouse for many donated supplies for those in our region.  It has been remarkable the outpouring of donations from all over the country.  Volunteers from the Southwest Baptist Convention Disaster Relief have come from all over.  Some from Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas have been continually coming in on a rotating weekly basis.  They sleep on cots in sleeping bags in our church building.

They are the ones who help the Red Cross get things done.  It was an eye opener for us when we went to the Red Cross on Thanksgiving Day to help prepare meals & load trucks to bring the food to those in need of a meal.  These volunteers are so well organized.  I think they knew more of what to do than those from the Red Cross.

Yes, Jerry did go hunting this season even though he was hobbling around.  He didn’t see anything other than turkeys & squirrels probably because of his limited mobility. So no meat this year; maybe next year.

God bless you and have a safe and healthy New Year.

Love, Jerry & Arlene
